3D Paper

Description: We started the activity by looking at different 3D artists. We then picked out different objects that we had to include in our background. After choosing our objects, we then brainstormed as a group. My group got a cat, car and snow to include in our 3D background. We then folded our background and cut the slits to glue our objects on. We colored the snow on the background and then drew out the cat and car. We also included a stop sign in one of our folding designs. We cut out of car, cat and stop sign and then glued them on the pop outs. Extension Activity: An extension activity could be writing a paragraph about each object and design after completing the activity. This paragraph could be attached to the bottom of the students design.

Clay Mosaic Tiles

Description: We started the activity by learning about mosaic tiles and the different artists. We also took a look at different mosaic art piece and compared the two. We then brainstormed ideas for what we would put on our own clay tile. To begin the activity, we took our clay and kneaded it on the table to make a ball. After kneading the clay, we rolled it out and cut out our square design. We then used the clay to make our additive and subtractive designs. I made a C out of clay for my name and then some mountains for my love of visiting the Black Hills. I also drew a shopping bag for my love of shopping and a coffee cup for my obsession of iced coffee. The airplane is for my love of traveling. I painted my C a sunset color because I love sunsets and the rest of the items are colored how they would be.  Extension Activity: An extension activity that I would have students do would be choosing a mosaic tile artist and try to recreate their art style. Printmaking Ornaments

Description: We started the activity with taking a look at different printmaking artists. We also learned about the different tools you can use to make art through printmaking. To start the activity, we sketched a couple of our own designs that reflected our own culture and history. We then traced our design of choice onto the styrofoam square to make our print. After tracing the design, we cut out the ornament and began the printmaking process. We first used to roller to get an even layer of paint on the stamp and then placed on our paper to create our ornament. We did this four times, swapping designs with a partner. To end this activity, we reflected on our design and your partners design. Extension Activity: For an extension activity, students can explore symmetry and patterns through printmaking. Instead of choosing their own design, students will learn about patterns and how to represent those in art. They will then complete a project will patterns and symmetry.

Every Snowflake is Unique!

Description: We began this lesson by learning about snowflakes and how they are all unique. We then learned how to cut out designs of snowflakes and even got creative roam to make one of our own. We had to copy two designs and then make one of our own. We then opened the snowflakes up and glued them onto our blue construction paper. We let those snowflakes dry and listened to a story about snowflakes. After the snowflakes had dried we then glued a design on our own snowflake. Once we finished with the glue, we sprinkled salt over the top. We then dumped the remaining salt into the garbage and revealed our unique snowflake. We got to paint our snowflake with watercolor, and I chose blue and purple. Stained Glass Turkey Painting

Description: We began this activity by discussing stained glass art and some different artists of stained glass art. Stained glass art is mostly seen in churches and is usually colorful. To start the project, we taped off the turkey head and the feathers. We then learned about mixing paint colors and were given criteria to include in our project which included one primary, two secondary, and two tints. We were then given time to paint our turkey feathers with the criteria in mind. After completing most of the turkey feathers, we painted on the turkey face. We then put our painting on the drying rack and will peel the tape off when dry.  Extension Activity: For an extension activity, I would have students research stained glass art and different artists. I would have students get into groups and give them a set of questions to research about a specific stained glass artist.

Pumpkin Zentangle Project

Description: For the Pumpkin Zentangle Project, we first learned about Zentangle patterns and came up with our own patterns. We then drew our pumpkin on our blank piece of paper and outlined it in sharpie. After doing that, we were required to draw one fall Zentangle pattern and then one Zentangle pattern of your interest. I chose to draw pumpkins for my fall pattern and coffee for my pattern of interest. After filling each space of the pumpkin with a Zentangle pattern, we then went over the pumpkin with orange watercolor. We colored the stem with brown watercolor and let the paint dry before cutting out the pumpkin.  Extension Activity: For an extension activity, I could have students write about the patterns they chose for their Zentangle patterns. They could write about their pumpkin and what makes it special to them.

Hidden Safari Project

 Description: The Hidden Safari lesson started by introducing the different types of animals that you would see on a safari. We were asked to analyze two of Henri Rousseau’s safari paintings and explain some of the main details. We then made our own ruby red glasses with red construction paper and a red film. We also learned about upside down drawing and the benefits to drawing this way rather than the right way. For the project, we got to pick an animal of our choice that we would see in a safari and I picked an elephant. I then drew that animal upside down on my white piece of paper. After completing our animal drawing, we learned about patterns. We were asked to use three patterns over our animal drawing to create the illusion of no picture. Once complete, you should be able to see the pattern, but with the help of the glasses, you will be able to see your animal.
